Meet Your Counselor
Restored Counsel exists to provide compassionate, Christ-centered counseling that helps individuals, couples, and families find hope and direction through the unchanging truth of God’s Word. Behind that mission is a pastor and counselor with a long-standing heart for the hurting and a deep confidence in the restoring work of Christ.
A Calling Shaped by Years of Ministry
From my teenage years, I sensed God calling me into ministry, especially to reach and encourage young people who were carrying hidden burdens. As the years went by, that calling deepened and broadened—from teens and young adults to parents, marriages, and adults of all ages who needed someone to walk with them through the darker valleys of life.
Over the past two decades, the Lord has allowed me to serve in a variety of roles that have shaped my heart for counseling. I have served as an assistant pastor, Christian school administrator and teacher, and youth pastor at Grace Baptist Church. I then worked with Accelerated Christian Education, visiting Christian schools and serving in many ways as a “pastor to pastors,” counseling and encouraging ministry leaders, teachers, and Christian workers across the country.
In 2012, I transitioned to Crossroads Baptist Church as an assistant pastor, where I led children’s ministries, helped lead worship, visited in homes and hospitals, and walked with families through many seasons of life. In late 2019, God led my family and me to Mayville, Michigan, where I began serving as pastor. I continue to serve there today, alongside my wife and our children, shepherding a local church and walking with people through real struggles in a broken world.
Counseling Experience and Training
My pull toward biblical counseling became especially strong as I walked with a close loved one through deep trauma. That experience gave me a clearer understanding of how profoundly wounds can shape the heart—and how powerfully God’s truth brings comfort, clarity, and hope. Since then, I have had the privilege of counseling individuals and families through crisis, trauma, grief, marital conflict, parenting challenges, spiritual discouragement, anxiety, and depression.
I am a certified biblical counselor through the Biblical Counseling Center (BCC) and hold a bachelor’s degree in pastoral studies. I have taken counseling courses in college and continue to pursue additional training, particularly in family and marriage counseling. Beyond formal training, I have devoted many hours to reading and studying biblical counseling resources and Scripture passages that speak directly to the issues people face in daily life.
How I Approach Counseling
In the counseling room, people often describe me as gently direct, patient, and grounded in Scripture. I believe a counselor should listen more than speak, especially in the early stages, so I take time to understand your story and the patterns that have developed over time. When the moment is right, I seek to lay out a clear, biblical path forward—helping to correct the lies we so easily believe and replacing them with the truth of God’s Word.
I do not shy away from saying hard things when they are needed, but I am committed to speaking the truth in love, with as much grace and care as possible. My goal is never to shame or condemn, but to help you see how the gospel brings light into darkness, hope into despair, and assurance where fear once ruled. I hold tightly to the promise that where sin and suffering abound, God’s grace abounds much more.
Who I Love to Serve
My heart is especially drawn to those who have walked through trauma, including abuse survivors and those who serve in high-stress roles such as law enforcement and the military. While I have not personally experienced their daily realities, I deeply respect their sacrifices and long to help them process their experiences through the lens of Scripture.
I also feel a strong burden for marriages in crisis, teens and young adults facing confusion and pressure, and those wrestling with anxiety or depression. Many people are unsure whether the Bible has anything to say about these struggles, and it is a joy to show from God’s Word that He sees, He cares, and He speaks directly to the cares of the heart.
As a husband and father with children ranging from school-age to young adult, I understand something of the challenges of family life and parenting in today’s world. I am not a perfect parent, but I have walked with many parents as we learn together how to love, protect, and shepherd our children in a way that honors Christ.
What You Can Expect
Whether we meet online or in person, my desire is that from the very first session you feel loved, heard, and genuinely cared for. Counseling sessions are typically 50–60 minutes, with a longer initial intake to allow time to listen carefully, ask questions, and begin thinking together about how God’s Word speaks into what you are facing.
My prayer for every person who comes to Restored Counsel is that, over time, they would experience not just temporary relief, but true heart-level change and renewed hope in Christ. I would count it a privilege to walk with you as you seek the One who truly restores the soul.
